Fake News
I created this piece to submit to the international competition Poster for Tomorrow 2020 under the theme of Fake News. After deliberation, I was honoured to be selected among the top 300 participants out of more than 6,000 entries worldwide.
The illustration depicts a man in a suit pulling the strings of an individual reduced to the role of a puppet. Through this contrast, the piece explores manipulation and denounces the way authorities or influential figures, under the guise of credibility, can control the masses through disinformation.
From the invention of print to the speed and reach of today’s digital networks, lies and rumours have long been used to steer opinion, consolidate power, and provoke upheaval. Today, these manipulations spread faster and wider than ever, while the responsibility of their authors fades into the background. With this work, I aim to encourage viewers to question their sources of information and recognize the invisible mechanisms of manipulation that continue to shape our contemporary societies.
